I’m not talking about some hypothetical tech mumbo jumbo that only 1% of crypto holders understand, or some new hype concept that isn’t established yet. Here’s what made me buy and use (not just invest in) Bitcoin in 2016 (or somewhere around then) when it was really niche.
I was watching some webcam porn (please don’t stop reading) and really liked the…performer, so I was looking for existing webcam recordings. They existed, but they were behind some filehoster which required a premium account to access those specific videos. Now, I was really thirsty back then, so I decided to buy a month-long subscription. The payment options were: Credit card (not an option since I didn’t have one and didn’t want my name to be associated with buying access to a filehoster known to host porn), paypal (same reasoning here, although I did already have paypal at the time) – and Bitcoin.
So I started looking into how to get Bitcoin. It was neither intuitive nor easy, but the thirst was stronger. Eventually, I managed to create a coinbase account. I’m also 100% sure that coinbase did NOT require a KYC back then.
And that’s the whole story. Bought some Bitcoin, got my premium account anonymously and downloaded the lewds. A happy end, in more ways than one.
Tl;dr: Porn. Always has been.
