Bear with me. This is a 100% serious post.
I’m a young guy – quite good with technology (certainly above average). I’m by no means a computer scientist but have been assembling PCs and casually writing code since I was a kid.
I have a good understanding of how bitcoin works. Merkle trees, proof of work, public/private keys etc. Spent 100+ hours to study btc
To my question… I 100% know you should take custody of your crypto and that’s the whole point of it. Decentralized, having assets outside of traditional financial system etc etc etc. BUT I still have my stuff on exchanges because I’m terrified of doing something stupid, i.e., user error
sending to wrong address virus on pc losing the keys (getting it stolen, or a bloody fire or flood)
I thought about it and FOR ME costs of using an exchange (risks) overweighs benefits of self custody. Keen to get everyone’s thoughts. Peace out
