Hello everybody,
had a day off yesterday and spend a lot of my day learning about the world of crypto because I couldn’t believe my Reddit Avatar would be able to cover for 4 monthly rents. I think it is well-deserved for Reddit and the community that they have built, it is simply the only social media I seriously stand behind.
If you’re just getting into this, I have a few things I learned yesterday, that might be of interest for some people who are trying to figure out how to list their Avatar on OpenSea, get it into a wallet etc.
Firstly – if you are asking for guidance in a Reddit forum like the Polygon subreddit, be prepared for A LOT of scammers to send you DMs. It seemed like people were actually very keen to help but they end up sending you link that seems like a website where you “connect all your different wallets”. These websites look like the real deal but will ask for your seed phrase immediately. DO NOT ENTER YOUR SEED PHRASE under any circumstances. It would have really sucked for someone to take advantage of this learning phase and I don’t want it to happen to any of you. There are great articles on how to sell your avatar on OpenSea. For example this one. I encountered some problems in this though and it took me a long time to figure out how to integrate the Token into Metamask as it kept on telling me, it couldn’t load the token. I am very new in all of this but in the end the problem was, that I connected a wrong address with Metamask. If this happens to you, just delete the app and do the whole process of signing up from scratch, then it should work. As stated many times before, if your token does not show up in OpenSea mobile, you need to scroll the tabs sideways until “More” shows up and unhide your token. It will be visible then.
That said, I have not sold my Avatar. As far as my understanding of NFTs goes, it’s a lot about the community behind a design and the utility they have for them. It seems like Reddit Avatars can be more than just a nice little profile picture. They are a unique appearance in an encouraging community that thrives from cooperation. Sure, it can get chaotic around here but I feel like Reddit has taught me a lot about how to sort information and understand topics that are of very paradoxical nature to me. it is worth to me to keep that little avatar as a reminder of that and worth more than just some $$$ that I didn’t plan with anyway.
Have fun and stay safe out there,
kanu
